Custom kitchen lighting

Recessed, pendant, under-cabinet and island lighting planned around how you use your kitchen, wired and installed to code.

One light in the middle of the ceiling leaves most kitchens with shadows on the counters, because you’re standing between the light and your work. Good kitchen lighting usually combines recessed or ceiling lights for the room, lights under the cabinets for prep space, and pendants over the island or sink.

Putting each group on its own switch or dimmer lets you light the counters for cooking and keep the rest low in the evening. In a remodel, all of this is easiest to plan before the ceiling and walls are closed up.

How it works

We look at the kitchen layout, where you prep and cook, and anything in the ceiling that affects where lights can go. Then we lay out the fixtures and switches with you and give you a written estimate.

In a finished kitchen, recessed and under-cabinet lights can often be added with small openings. During a remodel, we work with your contractor so the wiring is in place before the drywall and cabinets go up. A permit is pulled when the job needs one.

Signs you need it

When to give us a call.

Any of these is a good reason to have us take a look.

01

Shadows on the counters

A single ceiling light behind you casts your shadow right where you’re working.

02

One fixture for the whole room

One central light rarely reaches the corners and counters evenly.

03

A new island

An island needs its own lighting overhead, and often outlets as well.

04

A kitchen remodel

Cabinets and ceilings coming out are the best time to rework the lighting.

05

No way to dim

Lights that are only on or off make the kitchen harsh in the evening.

06

Dated fixtures

Older fixtures can be swapped for LED recessed and pendant lights.

(910) 736-6898

Can you add recessed lights without tearing out the ceiling?

+
Usually, yes. Recessed lights can often go in through the openings cut for each fixture, and attic access above the kitchen helps.

How many recessed lights does my kitchen need?

+
It depends on the size and layout of the room and where the counters are. We plan the spacing so the counters are well lit.

Hardwired or plug-in under-cabinet lights?

+
Hardwired lights run off a wall switch with no cords showing. Plug-in lights are simpler to add but use an outlet. We can tell you what works with your cabinets.

Can I choose my own fixtures?

+
Yes. We’ll check that they suit the location and the dimmers before they go in.

Do you work with remodel contractors?

+
Yes. We coordinate with your contractor so the electrical rough-in fits their schedule.
