Solar installation

Wiring and connection for home solar systems, done to current electrical code and coordinated with your utility where needed.

A solar system makes electricity from panels on your roof or on a ground mount. An inverter converts it into the kind of power your home uses. The electrical work ties it together, with wiring from the array, the inverter, disconnects and the connection to your panel.

Before going solar, it’s worth finding out whether your electrical panel can take the added connection. Some older or full panels need changes or an upgrade first. We check that early so it doesn’t hold up the job later.

How it works

We look at your roof or yard, your electrical panel and how you use power, then go over what a system would involve and give you a written estimate. If your panel needs work first, we’ll tell you up front.

Solar usually needs a permit, an inspection and approval from the utility before the system can be turned on. We take care of the electrical side and coordinate with the utility where needed.

Signs you need it

When to give us a call.

Any of these is a good reason to have us take a look.

01

A roof with good sun

A roof that gets direct sun most of the day, without heavy shade from trees, is a good starting point.

02

Room for a ground mount

If your roof isn’t a good fit, open land can hold a ground-mounted array instead.

03

Big summer bills

Homes that run air conditioning hard through the summer use a lot of power during the sunniest months.

04

You want battery backup later

Planning solar with batteries in mind makes it easier to add them down the road.

05

Your roof needs replacing soon

If the roof is near the end of its life, it usually makes sense to replace it before panels go up.

06

An EV in your future

Adding an electric car increases your power use, which is worth planning for when you size a system.

Will solar keep my power on in an outage?

+
Not by itself. A standard grid-tied system shuts off when the grid goes down so it doesn’t send power onto the lines. To keep power on, you need a battery system set up for backup.

Will my panel need an upgrade?

+
Sometimes. It depends on the panel’s size, its condition and how much room it has, and we check that before you commit.

Does the utility have to approve it?

+
Grid-tied systems generally need the utility’s approval before they’re turned on. We coordinate with them on the electrical side where needed.

Can batteries be added later?

+
Often, yes. Telling us at the start that you might want them helps us set the system up so they’re easier to add.
