Smart home integration

Smart switches, outlets, video doorbells and other connected devices wired correctly into your home’s electrical system.

A lot of smart devices look easy to install until you open the wall box. Many smart switches need a neutral wire that some older homes don’t have at the switch. Others need more room in the box than an old switch did, and a video doorbell needs the right transformer to stay powered.

We handle the wiring side of a smart home. That means installing switches, dimmers and outlets, adding power where a device needs it, and making sure each one is on a safe, properly sized circuit.

How it works

Tell us what you want to control and which devices you have or are considering. We check your existing wiring, especially the switch boxes and neutral wires, and give you a written estimate.

Then we install the devices and test each one. If a spot doesn’t have the wiring a device needs, we explain what it would take to add it before doing anything.

Signs you need it

When to give us a call.

Any of these is a good reason to have us take a look.

01

A smart switch won’t work

If a new switch won’t power on, the box may be missing a neutral wire.

02

Your doorbell keeps losing power

A video doorbell that drops offline often needs a different transformer.

03

Three-way switches

Lights controlled from two places take a different wiring setup for smart switches.

04

No outlet where you need one

Cameras and other devices often need power in spots that don’t have it.

05

Crowded switch boxes

Smart switches are larger than standard ones and may not fit in an old, packed box.

06

A remodel is coming

Open walls are the easiest time to run wiring for future smart devices.

Do smart switches need a neutral wire?

+
Most do. Many homes have neutrals at the switch, but some older ones don’t, and we can check yours and tell you the options.

Will smart devices work with my older wiring?

+
Often they will, but some need a neutral wire, a deeper box or a dedicated circuit. We look at the wiring first.

Can you add outlets for outdoor cameras?

+
Yes. Outdoor outlets are installed with weather-resistant covers and GFCI protection where current electrical code requires it.

Should I install smart switches myself?

+
If you’re not sure which wires you have or the box is crowded, it’s safer to have an electrician do it.
