EV charger installation

Level 2 EV charger installation at your home, on a dedicated 240-volt circuit sized for your car and your panel.

You can charge an electric car from a regular wall outlet, but it’s slow. A Level 2 charger runs on a 240-volt circuit and can charge most electric cars overnight.

The charger needs its own circuit, sized for the charger and run from your panel to where you park. Some people want a charger wired directly to the wall, and others want a 240-volt outlet they can plug a charger into. We install both.

How it works

We check your panel for space and capacity, look at the route from the panel to your parking spot, and give you a written estimate. If the panel is full or close to its limit, we’ll go over your options, which may include a load management device or a panel upgrade.

Then we run the circuit, mount the charger or outlet, and test it with you. A permit is usually required for this kind of work.

Signs you need it

When to give us a call.

Any of these is a good reason to have us take a look.

01

You just bought an EV

Most owners find a Level 2 charger at home makes daily driving much easier.

02

Charging takes too long

If a regular outlet can’t refill the battery overnight, a 240-volt circuit will charge much faster.

03

A second electric car

Two cars may need a second circuit or a way to share the power between them.

04

Using an extension cord

Running an EV off an extension cord can overheat the cord and the outlet.

05

Building or adding a garage

It’s easier to run the circuit while the walls are open.

06

Breakers trip while charging

An outlet that trips during charging may be on a shared or undersized circuit.

What’s the difference between Level 1 and Level 2?

+
Level 1 uses a standard 120-volt outlet and charges slowly. Level 2 uses a 240-volt circuit and charges several times faster.

Will my panel handle a charger?

+
Many panels can. If yours is full or near capacity, a load management device or a panel upgrade may be needed, and we check before recommending either.

Can the charger go outside?

+
Yes, as long as the charger is rated for outdoor use. The circuit and outlet are installed to suit an outdoor location.

Can you install a charger I already bought?

+
In most cases, yes. Send us the details and we’ll make sure the circuit matches what the charger needs.

Hardwired or plug-in?

+
Both work. A plug-in charger is easy to take with you if you move, while a hardwired unit can sometimes charge at a higher rate. We’ll go over which suits your setup.
