Electrical distribution

Switchgear, panels, transformers and feeders that carry power through your facility, installed or reworked to suit how you run today.

Distribution is everything between the utility service and the circuits on the floor: the main switchgear, transformers, distribution panels and the feeders that link them. If it was laid out for a different use of the building, power may not be where you need it, or one panel may carry far more than its share.

We install new distribution equipment and rework existing systems. That might be a sub-panel near a production area so you aren’t running long circuits across the plant, or a transformer to supply a voltage the building doesn’t have.

How it works

We trace what you have now, look at the load on each panel and talk with you about where the facility is headed. From there we lay out a plan and give you a written estimate.

Changes to distribution usually mean taking part of the facility offline. We plan those outages with you in advance and coordinate with the utility where needed. Panels and feeders get labeled and panel schedules updated, so your staff can find things later.

Signs you need it

When to give us a call.

Any of these is a good reason to have us take a look.

01

Long circuit runs across the plant

Equipment fed from a panel at the far end of the building can see voltage drop and is harder to isolate.

02

One overloaded panel

A single panel carrying most of the plant leaves no room to grow and no easy way to shut down one area.

03

Panel schedules that don’t match

When labels are wrong or missing, every repair and shutdown takes longer and carries more risk.

04

Need for a different voltage

Equipment that runs on a voltage the building doesn’t have usually needs a transformer or a new feed.

05

Hot or discolored equipment

Heat marks, a burning smell or buzzing from switchgear or a panel should be checked right away.

06

Plans to expand

An addition or new line is a good time to rethink how power gets around the facility.

FAQ

Electrical distribution questions.

Can you work on our distribution without shutting down the whole plant?

+
Usually the work can be split up so only part of the facility is down at a time. We plan each outage with you before it happens.

Do you update our panel schedules?

+
Yes. Any panel we work on gets labeled and its schedule updated to match what’s in it.

Will the utility need to be involved?

+
Only on some jobs, such as changes to the service itself. Where the utility is needed, we coordinate with them.

How do you decide where a new panel should go?

+
We look at where the loads are, where there’s room, and how you’d want to shut down one area without affecting another.
