One light in the middle of the ceiling leaves most kitchens with shadows on the counters, because you’re standing between the light and your work. Good kitchen lighting usually combines recessed or ceiling lights for the room, lights under the cabinets for prep space, and pendants over the island or sink.
Putting each group on its own switch or dimmer lets you light the counters for cooking and keep the rest low in the evening. In a remodel, all of this is easiest to plan before the ceiling and walls are closed up.
How it works
We look at the kitchen layout, where you prep and cook, and anything in the ceiling that affects where lights can go. Then we lay out the fixtures and switches with you and give you a written estimate.
In a finished kitchen, recessed and under-cabinet lights can often be added with small openings. During a remodel, we work with your contractor so the wiring is in place before the drywall and cabinets go up. A permit is pulled when the job needs one.
