Smart lighting

Smart dimmers, schedules and app-controlled lighting installed inside and outside your home, matched to your fixtures.

Smart lighting lets you dim, schedule or switch lights from your phone, a voice assistant or a keypad on the wall. You can have the porch lights come on at dusk, bring the bedroom lights up slowly in the morning, or turn everything off from the car.

There are a few ways to set it up. Smart bulbs need no wiring, but they only work while the wall switch stays on. Smart switches and dimmers control everything on that circuit, so they suit recessed lights and fixtures with several bulbs. Larger homes can link many switches into one system.

How it works

We walk through the rooms you want to control and check the switch boxes, fixtures and bulbs. LED lights and dimmers have to be compatible, or the lights can flicker, buzz or not dim all the way down. You get a written estimate before work starts.

Then we install the switches, dimmers and any new fixtures and test them across the dimming range.

Signs you need it

When to give us a call.

Any of these is a good reason to have us take a look.

01

LEDs flicker on a dimmer

Flicker or buzzing usually means the dimmer and the LED lights aren’t a good match.

02

Lights left on all day

Schedules and sensors turn lights off when nobody needs them.

03

Dark yard or driveway

Outdoor lights on a schedule or motion sensor make it easier to get from the car to the door.

04

A row of switches by the door

Several switches in one spot can sometimes be replaced with a single keypad.

05

You want lights on while away

Scheduled lighting makes the house look lived in when you’re traveling.

06

New fixtures going in

Replacing fixtures is a good time to add smart dimming.

Smart bulbs or smart switches?

+
Bulbs are simple for a lamp or a single fixture. Switches work better for rooms with several lights, and the wall switch still works for everyone in the house.

Why do my LED lights flicker when dimmed?

+
The dimmer may not be designed for LED loads, or the bulbs may not be dimmable. A compatible dimmer usually fixes it.

Will the lights work if the internet goes down?

+
With smart switches, you can still turn lights on and off at the wall. App control and schedules depend on the system you choose.

Can outdoor lights be put on a schedule?

+
Yes. Porch, landscape and security lights can run on a schedule, at dusk, or on motion sensors.
